Puerto del Carmen is on the south-east of Lanzarote and started life as a tiny fishing village. Over the years, it has grown into a fully fledged and very popular tourist hotspot.
Its very lively, especially around the marina during the evenings with a very good selection of bars, restaurants and pretty boutiques for shopping.
There are 3 local beaches - the main one in front of the promenade called Playa Grande is a great place to chill whilst Playa Chica is around 10 minutes walk towards the old town and is a good place for watersports and diving. Playa Pocillos is best for windsurfing.
Away from the beach, there is the popular Puerto Calero with its lovely marina - a short drive or you can take a water taxi - far more relaxing.
